What is tbh?
An anonymous social media app specially designed for high school students of United States, tbh, short for “to be honest” was launched in September 2017, which became able to secure first position in the ranking of U.S. App Store in October 2017.
The founders of the app tapped the nerve of curiosity of the students and took advantage of their end of the school day. It was a gossip app that emerged overnight and became popular among the teenagers making it one of their favorite apps. The app was fun, playful and safe for the students to say nice things about each other.
Story of its declination
Facebook wanted the app to be its’ next Instagram. The app had scored 5 million downloads and 2.5 million daily active users due to which Facebook allowed it to operate independently with its brand. However, this app with distinctive design faced the problem of how to keep its’ users engaged for which it continuously updated and even launched a messaging feature.
Then Facebook decided to shut down the app due to its’ low usage among the people in just 11 months after its’ launch. The data of the users have been deleted. The shut down of the app reflects how hard is to crack the market for apps like these.
